Arvindu wins open chess event; Pranav, Radhika emerge U-12 champs

JAMMU, Sept 23: Senior player Arvindu sharma won the open cash prize chess event, while young Pranav Abrol and Radhika emerged Under-12 champions in the event organized by Jammu District Chess Association at Ace Chess Academy here.
He won a cash prize of Rs 10, 000, while 2nd place went to Soham Kamotra who won Rs 5000 cash prize and the third prize of Rs 2000 was bagged by Sumit Grover.
Ranbir Singh won senior citizen prize of Rs 1000 and best woman prize of Rs 1000 went to Ojaswani Mengi.
Pranav Abrol and Radhika won the 1st prizes in U-12 boys and girls categories of Rs 500 each. Total cash prizes of Rs 20000 were distributed among the winners.
Players from Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua and Ramban participated in this open event.
It was a very tough fight for the first place among senior players while juniors also gave them some anxious moments.
The main objective of the event was to give juniors a chance to play with senior players in order to give them big exposure and platform.
President All J&K Chess Association, Atul Kumar Gupta alongwith Raj Kumar, Vikas Nanda and Vijay Choudhary distributed prizes among the winners.
