KATHUA, Jan 12: Scripting a thrilling last-ball win over Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) in the summit clash, Sandhu Cricket Club Ludhiana lifted the title trophy of the 3rd Police Martyrs’ Memorial North Zone T20 Cricket Championship at Sports Stadium, here today.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order, K Rajendra Kumar was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion.
Earlier, batting first, LDCA scored a modest total of 110 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 7 wickets. Anil Siag was the top scorer with 43 runs, while Abhinav Bhatia contributed 16 runs to the total. For Sandhu Club, Aman Bharti took 2 wickets, while Gurpreet, Gurinder, Gaurav Gambhir and Varun claimed one wicket apiece.
In reply, Sandhu Club clinched a thrilling victory on the last ball of the match by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Ankit Kaushik (35) and Prince (21) were the main contributors. For LDCA, Bharat Malhotra got 2 wickets, while Baltez, Sukhvinder and Anil Siag claimed one wicket apiece. Anil Siag was adjudged man of the match and man of the series. For man of the match he was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5100 and a trophy, while for man of the series award, he received a Tata’s Nano Car, sponsored by Satyam Saria and TMT Saria. Bishwas Bhatia was adjudged best batsman to receive a cash prize of Rs 4000 and a trophy, while best bowler award went to Sujinder to get a cash prize of Rs 4000 and a trophy. The winners were presented a cash prize of Rs 1,50,000 and a coveted trophy from Chenab Textiles, Kathua, while the runners-up team was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and trophy sponsored by Kathua Industrial Units Association. JKAP team was awarded a trophy for fair play.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been playing an important role in promoting sports and refining talent of sports person in the State. He said that the sports have helped in a great way to channelise the energies of youth, besides keeping them away from the vices of evils and crimes.
Prominent among others, the function was attended by DIG, Jammu Samba–Kathua Range, J P Singh, SSP Kathua, Atul Kumar Goel, Principal, PTS Kathua, R K Bhat, Additional SP Kathua, Zahid Naseem Manhas, besides prominent citizens from the Town, large number of cricket lovers and families of police martyrs.
