DODA, Sept 28: A 10-day long Sports Festival at Block level began today in Doda district under the ‘Sports for Peace and Development’ component of Khelo India initiative of the Union Sports and Home Ministries, here.
The Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Simrandeep Singh, who is also the chairman of the Organising Committee formally inaugurated the festival from Bhalla Block of the district at Govt Higher Secondary School, Berraru.
Additional DC Doda, Mohd Hanief Malik inaugurated the games for Dali Udhianpur block at High School Dali Udhianpur.
A total of 5100 children are participating in 17 blocks of Doda district at 17 different venues, which have exclusively been prepared by Rural Development Department and THE Department of Youth Services and Sports over the past one month.
The games are being organised in Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi and Wrestling in different age groups.
