JAMMU, Jan 13: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena Jammu and Kashmir, under the leadership of its president Ashok Gupta lodged a protest against Municipal Committee Katra for higher charges from pilgrims by ‘ghorawalas’, ‘ponywala’ and the shopkeepers.
The procession started from Brahman Sabha Parade Ground which passing through Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi and concluded at City Chowk, Jammu.
While addressing the gathering Ashok Gupta strongly condemned the attitude of ghorawalas for charging Rs 6000 and ponywala for charging Rs 10,000 from Balganga to Bhawan. He said the actual rate fixed by the Municipal Committee Katra is Rs 700 for ghorawalas and Rs 3000 for ponywalas.
Mr Gupta demanded that all the power should be transferred to the Shrine Board immediately so that better service is provided to the pilgrims.
Gupta further said that the State Government is spending crores of rupees for the advertisement to attract the tourists in Jammu and Kashmir and the incidents like this give a bad name to the State.
The prominent workers who participated in the protest included Nanak Chand, Raj Kumar, Raman Gupta and Ajay Kumar.
