SRINAGAR, Jan 14: Duped Hajj aspirants staged protests today against owner of Al Balaag Tour and Travels, Mehjoor Khan the kingpin of Hajj fraud 2012, who has duped 126 Hajj aspirants by swindling over Rs 2.5 crore last year.
Javaid Ahmad, one of the duped Hajj aspirants alleged that Khan was arrested by Shaheed Gunj Police Station on November 11 and was produced before the local court, where the Sessions Judge ordered the police to arrest the culprit’s wife and other business partners, and directed the police to appear before the court on January 14, along with his wife and business partners. “When we today reached court, we found only Mehjoor Khan with the police,” Javaid said.
The protesters alleged that the police was trying to hush up the case that was why no action has been taken even after the court directions against the culprits so far.
The protesters said that they want to know why Government is silent over this crime, when the police failed to recover their money in more than two months of time from the fraudulent. “The firm has played with our sentiments, we want stern punishment to the culprits, so that no one will dare to play with the religious sentiments of people,” the duped aspirants said.
“Had police been serious about the case, we would have recovered our money,” they said and demanded to put Al-Balaag owners’ property on sale so that money collected is distributed among the duped aspirants.
