JAMMU, Oct 7: Riding on an impressive show with the bat by skipper Parvez Rasool and splendid bowling display by speedster Umar Nazir Mir, coupled with splendid show by almost all the bowlers and valuable knocks by Shubham Singh Pundir and Shubham Khajuria, Jammu and Kashmir registered emphatic victory by 4 wickets over star-studded Tamil Nadu to earn four points in the ongoing Elite Group C Vijay Hazare Trophy at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Host Tamil Nadu made its exit following its loss to J&K in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Earlier, put into bat, Tamil Nadu, having the services of five International players, scored a modest total of 168 runs in 39.4 overs in a shortened (due to wet outfield) 41-overs match.
Abhinav Mukund top scored with 49 runs off 63 balls, studded with 5 boundaries, while Murli Vijay and Baba Indrajith contributed 44 and 28 runs to the total respectively. Washington Sundar and Baba Aparajith also chipped in with 14 and 11 runs respectively.
From Jammu and Kashmir, Umar Nazir was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 important wickets by conceding 26 runs in his 9 overs, while Medium pacers Rohit Sharma and Rasikh Salam and left-arm spinner Waseem Raza claimed 2 wickets each by giving away 31, 45 and 34 runs in 8, 7.4 and 8 overs respectively.
In reply, J&K sailing on a magnificent knock of unbeaten 71 runs off 70 balls by Parvez Rasool, chased the target in 40.3 overs by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Rasool was in awe inspiring touch, hitting 3 fours and 2 massive sixes in his superb knock. Shubham Singh Pundir and Shubham Khajuria also played valuable knocks 30 and 24 runs respectively. However, a partnership of 66 runs between Rasool and Pundir was the highlight of J&K innings’ which set the tone for J&K’s second win in the tournament. For Tamil Nadu, Varun Varun Chakravarthi took 3 wickets, while Rahil Shah, Vijay Shanker and M Mohammad claimed 1 wicket each.
J&K will take on Assam in its last match of the Tournament on October 11, 2018.
