Govt employee contesting Sarpanch’s election in Chenani

UDHAMPUR, Nov 5: In a surprising move, a Govt employee has been contesting Sarpanch’s election from Sewna block of tehsil Chenani in district udhampur.
Sources said that one Mukesh Kumari ( A Postal Deptt employee), wife of Darshan Kumar (Teacher), resident of Charat Panchayat in Pakhlai area of Sewna block in Chenani has been contesting Panchayat elections, after submitting a false affidavit and wrong information.
Former Sarpanch of the village, Sham Lal alleged that he opposed the wrong nomination of the woman candidate from this reserved Panchayat Halqa and even brought the matter to the notice of concerned RO, Rohit Gupta but he claimed that the contesting member has given in written that she will resign if elected as Sarpanch. The Ex-Sarpanch said that even she was allotted the election symbol as Electric Pole today and no action is being taken for this illegal and wrong move.
While the concerned RO could not be contacted despite repeated calls, Assistant Commissioner Development, Udhampur, Noor Alam, however, when contacted, admitted that a Govt employee cannot contest Panchayat elections. He claimed that matter came to his notice today and he pulled up the concerned Returning Officer, Rohit Gupta (AEE). ACD claimed that Member has been asked to resign and an action is being initiated for submitting wrong information.
