SRINAGAR, Nov 23: Riding on magnificent century (136) by Ahmad Omar Banday, coupled with 6 wickets haul by Wasim Raza and 5 wickets haul by skipper Parvez Rasool, Jammu and Kashmir crushed Tripura by 8 wickets in Ranji Trophy Group C match at Sher-i-Kashmir stadium here today.
Earlier on day one, Tripura won the toss and decided to bat first. J&K bowlers wreaked havoc and bundled out Tripura for 124 runs. None of the batsman could contribute much as Parvez Rasool emerged as pick of the bowlers taking 5 for 30 in his 10 overs. Irfan Pathan and Umar Nazir also shared two wickets each.
In reply, sailing on brilliant 136 runs by Ahmad Banday and superb 85 runs by Irfan Pathan, J&K scored a mammoth total of 442 runs thus gaining a vital first innings lead of 318 runs. Shubam Khajuria, Amir Aziz and Wasim Raza contributed 52, 48 and 45 runs respectively.
Trailing by 318 runs, Tripura managed to score 358 runs in their second essay, thus giving a victory target of 41 runs to Jammu and Kashmir. Smit Patel scored fabulous 124 runs and Prituysh scored 52 runs.
For J&K, Waseem Raza was the wrecker in chief, who took 6 important wickets while Parvez Rasool and Umar Nazir took 2 wickets each.
J&K chased the victory target of 41 runs by losing two wickets thus won the match by 8 wickets.
Ahmad Banday was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his splendid batting.
The team is being accompanied by Rajesh Dhar as Manager, Milap Mewada as coach, Bilal Shamas as Assistant Manager, Dr Ajaz Chilli as Physio, Sheikh Suhail as Video Analyst, Mushtaq Rather as Fielding Coach and Amit Bargotra as Trainer while the team was selected by senior selection committee of JKCA including Rashid Patel, Ashinder Koul, Ashish Zaidi and Rizwan Shamshad.
