RAMBAN, Dec 8: The Maitra Cricket Club (MCC) won SBM cricket tournament after it beat Sumber Eleven Cricket Club (SECC) by 9 wickets in a closely contested final match.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ramban, Anita Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion whereas, ASP, Sanjay Parihar, State President, Swadeshi Manch Bharat (SMB) J&K, Neeraj Singh, SHO Ramban, Vijay Kotwal besides sports lovers also graced the function.
The tournament was organised by the BSM (J&K) in collaboration with JK Police Ramban at DPL Ramban from November 25 at District Police Lines (DPL) Ground with an aim to bring communal harmony and inculcate sportsman spirit among the youth of Ramban district.
Around 40 matches including quarterfinals and semi-finals were played between 32 participating teams of different areas.
Speaking on the occasion SSP said that this sports event was organised to promote positive youth development through sports and provide a platform to showcase the hidden talent of the local populace, especially the youth in which various teams from various villages of far-flung and remote areas of Ramban and other districts participated in the tournament on a league-cum-knockout basis.
She stressed upon the youth to keep away from the drug abuse and advised them to take part in the sports activities so that they can prove their mettle in state and national level sports.
President SBM said that one such event is precious than many other sports tourneys that will turn out to be inspiring for the budding players of the mountainous town and its peripheries.
Sourav Singh Katoch was declared as man of match, man of series and best bowler for his outstanding performance in tournament and final match whereas Muzmil Dar was adjudged as the best batsman of the tournament.
