RAMNAGAR, Dec 22: Lambasting National Conference (NC) and its leaders for raising autonomy and other contentious issues when out of power, Union Minister in PMO with Independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that the so-called Autonomy resolution passed by the National Conference (NC) led Government was summarily rejected by the then Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a public meeting here, today while inaugurating Rs six crore bridge on river Tawi joining Ramnagar with Udhampur, Dr Jitendra Singh said the rejection was meekly accepted by the National Confe-rence leadership without any sign of protest. He said had they been so sincere and concerned for autonomy, then Dr Abdullah and Omar Abd-ullah should not have wasted a minute in resigning as Chief Minister and as Union MoS. But they both continued as CM and Union MoS because they don’t want to lose power, he added.
The Union Minister said this is the reason that even the people in Kashmir valley are no longer ready to take this double-faced jargon of NC leadership seriously, because by now, these Kashmir-centric political parties have earned the dubious reputation of talking about autonomy when out of power and speaking just the reverse when in power. This way they have been exposed before the masses for their double standards, he added.
Not sparing the Congress Party, Dr Jitendra Singh also launched a scathing attack on it, saying that soon after BJP’s resounding victory in the recently held local body polls, the Congress and its allies including National Conference had mocked the BJP for having gone down in vote share in the State but still celebrating the victory. “Where are these leaders now, when BJP has gained in vote share in Madhya Pradesh and, going by the same formula put forward by Congress and its allies, these Parties should have hailed the BJP on the basis of vote share, even though Congress has formed the Government in Madhya Pradesh.”
Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the BJP Karyakartas to move ahead with full self-confidence and assured that BJP Government will return with a decisive majority under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
He said visible change and transformation has taken place after Narendra Modi took over in 2014 in the entire country with the launching of pro people policies by Modi Government for the upliftment of masses and development of nation as a whole.
Dr Jitendra Singh said those ganging up against Modi feel threatened that he is on a mission to unmask their black deeds so they leave no opportunity to hoodwink the public opinion by leveling false and baseless allegations against him.
Earlier, while inaugurating the vital road bridge on river Tawi enroute Udhampur to Ramnagar, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this bridge could have been constructed over the last 65 years also, but could not happen because of the misplaced priorities of the earlier MPs and earlier Governments.
Udhampur-Kathua-Doda is a large constituency, said Dr Jitendra Singh, adding the transformation over the last four-and-a-half years is so conspicuously visible that when one enters from the Punjab border, one cannot miss the series of monumental development works which have come up in less than five years. Soon after entering the State of Jammu & Kashmir, there is Keediyan-Gadhiyal bridge, then Highway Haat Village planned for Kathua, North-India’s first-ever Bio-Tech Park, Medical College, Engineering College, new University Campus, Dreamland Park, Shahpur-Kandi and Ujh Multipurpose Projects which were held-up for several decades, Passport office, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Seed Processing Plant, etc.
He said soon after entering Udhampur, one comes across nearly Rs.190 crore Devika Project under National River Rejuvenation Plan, Radio Station scheduled to start next month. In Ramnagar while over Rs 1.25 crore have been spent from MP-Fund, there are, in addition, two Community Halls, Town Hall, Stadium, etc.
Similarly in Doda district, only last Saturday, foundation stone was laid for the first-ever National Institute of High Altitude Medicinal Plants at Bhaderwah and three important tunnels are coming up, namely Chhattergalla Tunnel, Kaljugar Tunnel to Himachal Pradesh and Khellani-Sudh Mahadev Tunnel. Post Offices and State Bank of India branches have been opened in remote areas like Gandoh and Kendriya Vidyalaya for distant places like Jodhpur.
He said in Reasi district besides construction of various vital roads, installation of weather forecasting instrument only second in the country at Sanji Chhat near holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi are self explanatory how this Government is committed to welfare of the people of this State.
Dr Jitendra also termed the New Industrial package for J&K a boon for State’s economy which will create many employment opportunities for unemployed youth in State.
BJP ex-MLA, Ramnagar, R S Pathania, party vice president, Pawan Khajuria, general secretary, Yudhvir Sethi, BJYM National Executive Member, Bharat Sharma, BJP Mandal president, Rajinder Sharma and president and vice president of Ramnagar Municipal Committee were present on the occasion.
