Leh District Karatekas represent State, win laurels

LEH, Dec 26: The 18-member Karate team of Leh district mostly girls and from Kendriya Vidyalaya School Leh brought laurels to the State of Jammu and Kashmir in general and Leh district in particular by winning 8 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze medals at national and state level Karate championship held at Haryana, Punjab and J&K recently. The 10-member girls’ team of Leh also represented J&K State and won second position for J&K State team.
The Karate players headed by Coach Abdul Aziz were given an official reception at Council Secretariat by the Deputy Chairman Gyal P Wangyal and honoured them with traditional Khataks today.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Executive Councillor for Minorities Mumtaz Hussian and Councillor Igoo Tsering Paldan and parents of Karate players.
Dy Chairman Gyal P. Wangyal congratulating the Karate players and their parents on behalf of LAHDC, Leh highly appreciated for their outstanding performance and said that they have made every Ladakhi proud.
Encouraging the budding athletes, Dy. Chairman urged them to continue their hard work and performance which will help a lot at college and university levels in their career.
He suggested Coach Abdul Aziz to affiliate their association with J&K Sports Council which will help them to participate at international and national level tournaments and assured his support in this regard.
Coach, Mr Aziz who is also a national level Karate player requested Deputy Chairman to provide a space for Karate players at Leh for practice purpose.
