JAMMU, Jan 18: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today inaugurated Platform Gym at Greater Kalash in Gandhi Nagar Constituency, here.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that while health is important throughout one’s entire life, focusing on physical health in teens is especially important. If teenagers stay physically fit and active, they can avoid health problems and other complications in the future. Staying active can reduce the likelihood of obesity and other weight related problems. Combining physical fitness with a healthy diet can also reduce the risk of heart disease and increase the life span of health individuals. Youth need regular opportunities to be physically active, he added.
Unfortunately, schools are not meeting their needs through physical education classes and recess, and many children and adolescents live in neighbourhoods with limited space and options for safe, age-appropriate physical activity outside of school hours. The health of their growing children is a priority in any parent’s life, and few things are as important to kids’ health as their level of exercise and fitness. Staying physically fit early in life can prevent potential conditions from developing, and it helps children stay positive and energetic.
“Sports events keep the youth engaged in constructive and productive purposes. This will not only keep them physically fit, but also keep them away from the menace of drug addiction and other crimes, anti-social activities he maintained,” former Minister added.
