JU cagers win thriller, enter pre-quarters

JAMMU, Feb 4: Defeating Kurukshetra University in cliff hanger, Jammu University Basketball team entered the pre-quarterfinals of the ongoing North Zone Inter-University Basketball Championship for men being played at Chhtrapatai Sahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur.
In their second round match against higher rated Kurukshetra University, which turned out to be a thriller, JU emerged winner by thirty eight to thirty six baskets (38-36) in an exciting contest, after trailing by nineteen baskets to sixteen (19-16) in the first-half.
According to the reports reaching here, both the teams matched each other in motor-ability and skill, but while JU boys combined well to thwart offensive moves of the rivals, Captain Ranbir Singh and lanky Shubham Sharma put up spirited performances to net baskets at crucial junctures. They were ably assisted by Salinder Singh, Sachin Dogra, Karan Kumar and Sushant Sharma.
Now, in their pre-quarterfinals, JU would meet the winners of the match between PTU Jullandhar and LPU Phagwara to be played on Tuesday.
