PK asks parties to field Pandit candidate from Srinagar LS seat

JAMMU, Feb 3: Panun Kashmir (PK) while reiterating its demand that among six Parliamentary Constituencies, the mandate for Srinagar Lok Sabha Constituency be given to a Kashmiri Pandit candidate by every political party for the political empowerment of the community.
In this regard PK president, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo has written detailed letters to presidents of all political parties of the State including National Conference (NC), president, Dr Farooq Abdullah, PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, PCC chief, G A Mir and Panthers Party president, B S Mankoita today.
The letter said that such a step can pave a way to bring the Kashmiri Pandits -the members of the indigenous population of the Kashmir valley to have a formal representation in the Lok Sabha. The oft-repeated narrative of the last almost three decades that “Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits” needs to be translated into reality and thus send a strong message that the displaced and exiled community belongs to the socio-political milieu of the Kashmir Valley, the letter added.
It said the Pandit community needs to be provided a clear way to enter the representative houses as the representative of the people; after all they are the seven lakh State subject people of the State. “I make a fervent appeal to the political parties to give their mandate for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency to a deserving Kashmiri Pandit only”, Chrungoo said.
Chrungoo said the Assembly elections this time are also due. The same formula may be applied to “two Assembly Constituencies” out of the four constituencies where the political parties may give their mandate to the Kashmiri Pandit only. These are Habbakadal, Anantnag, Baramulla and Jammu West.
Chrungoo in his letter has made a humble appeal to the heads of these political parties to consider his appeal favorably to include the displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the political and electoral process of the State positively and practically.
