UDHAMPUR, Feb 7: The Women Development Cell of Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur in collaboration with Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu, Jammu organized a day long seminar on the topic “Domestic Violence against Women,” here today.
The event was held under the supervision of Prof Ashni Devi.
MK Sharma, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Priyanka Bhau, member of Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu was the guest of honour.
Earlier, Dr Yudhvir Singh, Principal, Government College for Women, Udhampur presented welcome address.
The chief guest in his keynote address criticized the various forms of domestic violence against women and said domestic violence remains invisible and under recognized pandemic of our times.
Dr Priyanka Bhau while speaking on the occasion said domestic violence causes far more pain, than visible marks of bruises and scars.
Dr Saranjeet Kour also spoke on the occasion and made the students aware about the initiatives taken by the Centre for Women Development, University of Jammu to spread the awareness about women related issues.
The other resource persons on the occasion were Advocates Yograj Sharma and Dinkar Gupta who talked about various ways to tackle the problems legally, while Dr Shalini Sharma, HoD English, Dr Parveen Kumari, HoD Hindi, both members of Women Development Cell of the College also spoke on the occasion and resolved to strengthen the movement for the domestic violence against women.
Students also actively participated in the programme. They included Monika Thakur of B Sc Part-II, Usha Verma of B Sc Part-II, Vaneeta Sharma of B Sc Part-II, Arti Sharma of B Sc Part-I and Pushpa Devi of B Sc Part-II. A cash award was distributed amongst the participating students.
Prof Ashni Devi, Convener Women Development Cell, GCW Udhampur presented vote of thanks. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Shalini Sharma and Prof Madhvi Khajuria.
