Bar suspends work, takes out protest rally

JAMMU, Feb 12: Responding to the call given by Bar Council of India, J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu today suspended work in all the courts and took out a protest rally from High Court Complex to Governor’s House under the Presidentship of Senior Advocate B S Slathia and submitted memorandum to President and Prime Minister through Governor.
While protesting, the lawyers raised slogans in support of the demands put forth by the Bar Council of India. Addressing the protesting lawyers, B S Slathia spoke in detail in support of the genuine demands put forth by the Bar Council of India as also the local demands of the Association and appealed all the members of the legal fraternity of the State to get united for any struggle in future.

The Bar Council of India has demanded that all the Bar Associations of the country should have chambers, adequate building/accommodation/sitting facilities with well equipped libraries, e-libraries with internet facilities and toilets etc. It has also demanded adequate budgetary allocation for the welfare of lawyers and litigants.
The demands put forth by J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu include setting up of J&K State Bar Council as per the provisions of the Advocates Act, 1961 and raising of sanctioned strength of J&K High Court from present 17 to 25 to ensure prompt disposal of cases and reduce the sufferings of the litigants,
The Bar Associations of all the districts of Jammu province also took out protest rallies in their respective districts and submitted memorandum to the respective Deputy Commis-sioners in support of the demands of Bar Council of India.
