CEC reviews preparedness of deptts to deal with post-snowfall situation

LEH, Feb 21: Owing to unprecedented heavy snowfall in Ladakh, CEC, LAHDC, Leh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal held an emergency meeting of district officers this afternoon and reviewed the present state of preparedness to meet the challenges.
The other objective of the meeting was to sensitise the general public of Leh district to avoid traffic as well as individual movement within the vicinity of avalanche prone areas till the threats are over.
JTN instructed SDRF and the Himank to identify the avalanche prone areas and check traffic movement and keep close coordination with the district administration for any eventuality.
CEC also took stock of the availability of feed and fodder for livestock in remote areas of Changthang and the transportation planning in case of emergency and also assessed the availability and supply of animal medicines through Sheep and Animal Husbandry Departments.
PWD was instructed to keep all their JCBs well alert to meet any exigency.
Moreover, the Forest Department was instructed to keep their departmental pastureland stand by for the livestock of general public in the event of snow crisis. JTN further asked the Sheep and Animal Husbandry Departments to simplify the relief procedures so that people could get compensation of their lost cattle without running from pillar to post.
CEC also instructed SE, PWD to keep alert all their wings for any kind of challenges out of the present snow.
Discussion on dispatching feed and fodder in accessible areas of Nubra and necessary measures for saving trees mainly apricot in Shaam region was also held.
The EC, Health Tsering Sandup, EC, Agriculture, Stanzin Phuntsog and Councilors of respective areas also putforth their views and suggestions about how to handle the presently situation in a better way.
The Addl. District Development Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang apprised the meeting that main passes like Khardongla, Changla etc are currently closed.
He said that all SDMs and Tehsildars were instructed to remain at their respective headquarters to monitor over the present situation.
“Satellite phones are active in all the regions and district administration is well prepared to deal with the situation,” Moses added.
DySP, SDRF, Sonam Dorjey was also present in the meeting.
