Kargil receives 3 prizes at National Water Awards

JAMMU, Feb 25: Kargil received three awards at the National Water Awards 2018 at Mavalankar Hall, Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, organized by the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. The awards were given by the Union Minister for Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari.
Kargil was given 1st prize as the Best District (North Zone) for Rejuvenation/ Creation of Water Bodies and 2nd prize as Best District (North Zone) for Ground Water Recharge.
On behalf of the District Administration, the two awards were received by Imteeaz Kacho, Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil.
While talking to EXCELSIOR, ACD Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho said that the joint effort of the team of IWMP of RDD Kargil Ladakh has done a tremendous Job and on that basis, the Awards have been received.
Meanwhile, Government Middle School, Karith, Kargil Ladakh was given the 1st prize for Best Research/Innovation/ Adaptation of New Technology for Water Conservation in the Project Glacier category.
The award was received by the school’s Headmaster, Mohammad Ali Akhone, who was presented a memento, a citation and a cash prize of Rs two lakh from the Union Minister for Water Resources.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Height of the Ice Stupa in 2017-18 was 40 feet with a circumference of 172 feet, and was discharging water till June 2018 and this year the Height has reached 49 feet with a circumference 390 feet and is still expanding.
