Bootlegger held with 18 bottles of illicit liquor

RAMBAN, Mar 4: Police today arrested one bootlegger from Gund Adal Kote area of Banihal and recovered 18 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.
“On a specific information regarding smuggling of illicit liquor, a special naka was laid in Gund Adal Kote area of Banihal town,” a police official said, adding during naka checking one pedestrian was stopped and on search of the bag which he was carrying, 50 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered.
He said the accused person was identified as Sajad Ahmed Sheikh son of Gulzar Ahmed Sheikh, resident of Buttgund Verinag, tehsil Doru, district Anantnag and at present Banihal. “The accused is a habitual offender and 3 FIRs already stand registered against him,” he added.
In this connection, a case FIR NO 20/2019, dated 04-03-2019 was registered U/S 48 (A) Excise Act and further investigation was in progress.
The recovery/arrest was made by a police team headed by Inspector Aijaz Ahmed Wani, SHO Police Station Banihal under the supervision of Sajjad Sarwar, SDPO Banihal and Sanjay Parihar, Additional SP Ramban and overall supervision of Anita Sharma, SSP Ramban.
