KATHUA, Mar 6: Legal Metrology Department Kathua has imposed Rs 50,000 fine on V-Mart Retail Ltd, Kathua, for violation of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules-2011.
Acting on a consumer complaint, a team of LMD Kathua inspected the retail outlet of the company and registered a case as the packages of items like Electrical appliances, crockery and ready-made garments offered for sale to the consumers were not carrying proper mandatory declarations, required under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011.
Subsequently, the matter was taken up by the department with the V-Mart retail Ltd Gurgoan, Haryana, which in turn admitted the lapses on their part and applied for compounding of the case at the department level. Ultimately, the Assistant Controller LMD Kathua, Kuldeep Raj imposed and recovered Rs 50,000 composition from the company.
The LMD has once again made it clear that packaged goods offered for sale must bear the mandatory declarations like name of the commodity in the package, address of the manufacturer/ packer/importer, net quality by weight/measure/number, Retail sale price, month and year of manufacture/packing, consumer care number etc.
