NEW DELHI: ailways has announced more welfare measures, including medical facility for its more than 20,000 ‘Sahayaks’, also known as license porters, working over various stations across the nation.
With the advent of lifts and escalators on railway stations along with increased usage of luggage trolleys, the role of license porters has undergone a drastic change and in view of persistent demands from license porters and to make their working more comfortable, Indian Railways has taken several measures towards their welfare like extension of validity of cheque pass, providing them rest room facilities, usage of path ways, an official statement here said.
Also, free education for wards of ‘Sahayaks’ is also ensured under which free education facility is being provided to the wards of Sahayaks in the schools run by Railways’ and Railwaymen’s organisation, Mahilla Samitis.
It has been decided to extend the facility to the schools run by Railways and Railwaymens’ organisation, Mahila samitis at any station in the division where the ‘Sahayaks’ are working, it added.
Further zones have been empowered to frame their own guidelines for smooth transfer of badges of ‘Sahayaks’.
In addition to above, the scope of free medical facility for sahayaks is proposed to be extended to ‘Sahayaks’ and their family members shall be extended at par with Railway employees at the railway hospitals, railway units where Sahayak is presently working including referral to other Railway Health units, hospital but not to private hospitals empanelled with Railways.
However, those Sahayaks (and their family members) who are registered with Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Yojna will get medical facilities in railway hospitals, health units and Railways will raise debit to Ayushman Department (National Health Agency).
