SURANKOTE, Feb 15: Bilal’s swashbuckling century helped Nizamia Cricket Club to thrash JNV team by a big margin of 96 runs in the inaugural match of the Umar Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament, which got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
Shahnawaz Choudhary, State president Youth Congress was the chief guess on the opening ceremony, who declared the tournament open in an impressive and well attended function in presence of SP Poonch Yougal Manhas and SHO Surankote Sadaqat Hussain.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahnawaz said that the main objective of the tournament apart from exploring talent and skill of the youth of border areas is to channelise their energy in positive direction to help them not to get derailed from the mainstream.
He assured the gathering that he will take up the issue of construction of Sports Stadium in Surankote with the Minister for Sports, J&K and the Union Sports Minister.
Shahnawaz further informed that Youth Congress will organize Sports Mela in district Poonch to promote sports and games in the area.
Earlier, batting first, Nizamia Club, rode on fine 132 runs by Bilal posted a huge score of 234 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Mumtaz Bhatti also contributed unbeaten 56 runs to the total.
In reply, JNV team bundled out for 140 runs, thus lost the match by 96 runs. For JNV Sajid was the top scorer, while for Nizamia Waheed captured 4 important wickets. Bilal was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant century. He was presented a memento by Azil-Ul-Haq, father of Late Master Umar.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sikender Hayat, Yasin Sheikh, Reyaz Shah and Tariq Shah.
