Jammu, Mar 29: Activists of J&K United School Teachers Association today protested for highlighting demands of the teaching community, including Rehbar-e-Taalim.
USTA activists from different districts of Jammu region, under the leadership of Hari Singh and Rajeev Kumar, president and general secretary respectively, assembled near Press Club Jammu and staged protest demonstration amidst raising of slogans in support of their demands. They were demanding release of 5- month pending salary as well as arrears of 7th Pay Commission in favour of Masters working as Head Teachers, converting all ReTs (including undergraduates) into Teacher Grade-II and release their pending salary and arrear of 7th Pay Commission, regularization of all RReTs who have completed 5 years service, according Senior Teacher Grade in favour of trained undergraduate teachers, regularization of all incharge Lecturers, Headmasters and other officers.
They were also demanding that the teachers should be debarred from non-academic duties, starting of Pre-Primary Classes in all schools by providing infrastructure, stopping new pension scheme and implement Old Pension Scheme, fill all vacant posts in Education Department by way of DPC and implementation of Allahabad High Court judgment according to which all Government employees, bureaucrats, MLAs, MPs or anybody drawing wages or allowances from Government should educate their children in Government run schools.
While addressing the protesters, Provincial president strongly condemned the lackadaisical, apathetic and callous attitude of the State Government towards public education system. “It is very unfortunate that Head Teachers and RReTs working under SAMAGRA have not been paid their five months salary and whole arrear of 7th Pay Commission,” he said.
USTA leader appealed the State Government, especially Advisors to the Governor to take serious view of the situation on the ground and address the salary and other issues of teaching community. Otherwise USTA will be compelled to adopt agitational path, the responsibility of which will lie on shoulders of the Government,” he warned.
Others who address the protest, included Roop Chand, Raj Kumar, Kanta Devi, Pardeep Singh, Sunil Thappa, Siraju Din, Bashir Hussain, Balwant Singh and Julf Kar Ali Malik.
