Srinagar, Apr 11:  High Court today granted the permission to District Election Officer to use the Indoor Sports Stadium Srinagar for training of election staff and holding of meetings by the political parties.
Hearing a petition filed by District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner Srinagar) seeking to utilize the Indoor Stadium for election related work as the Parliamentary elections are going to be held for Srinagar constituency on April 18 in view of the security issue involved, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan accepted the plea and permitted to use the stadium for the same.
HC accepted the prayer as sought in the petition and allowed the stadium to be used for training of election staff as well as public meetings conducted by the candidates who are in fray for the constituency.
State counsel submitted that several public premises have been requisitioned for election related work as the election meetings and training of the staff would not be possible without having these premises.

Court was informed that frequent requests are being received from various political parties and candidates for permission to hold election related meetings in the stadium. Court allowed the petitioner-DC Srinagar to consider the applications received by him from anyone.
