JAMMU, Feb 19: The Dances of Jammu and Kashmir woven and choreographed in a bouquet presentation ‘Celebrating Diversity’ was showcased by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India under its fortnightly programme ‘Horizon Series’, at the Auditorium of IIIM, here today.
Thirty young dancers representing all major dance forms of Jammu and Kashmir mesmerized the captive audience through their spellbound performances.
Vipul Pathak, Commissioner/Secretary to Government Science and Technology was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director IIIM, Jammu presided over the fuction.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Balwant Thakur said that under its Horizon Series, this has been the endeavour of ICCR to give platform to the best of the local talents.
He further said that ICCR plays a vital role in bridging cultural relations with other nations of the world, or in other words we take India to the world and world to India.
Before the beginning of the programme, a short film on ICCR’s concept and programmes was also featured on the occasion which included a detailed description about ICCR by its President Dr Karan Singh.
This amazing bouquet of rarest dance traditions beautifully unfolded the mesmerizing artistic traditions of this part of the world.
Spectular Dogri dances were presented by the students on the occasion.
The programme was professionally conducted by Sanjeev Gupta.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Maj Gen (Retd.) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Lalit Gupta, Savita Bakshi, Khalid Hussain, Dr RK Raina (Senior Scientist) and Dr Surjeet Singh.
