JAMMU, Apr 22: Director General Youth Services and Sports, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman inaugurated the District Level Inter-School competitions in various sports disciplines in an impressive and well attended function at Inddor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
The competitions are being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Jammu in the disciplines of Speedball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Kick-boxing, Boxing and Weightlifting in the age groups of Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls.
The tournament is being organized under the patronage of Director General, Youth Services & Sports J&K and under the Chairmanship of Joint Director Youth Services & Sports Jammu, Madan Lal. Chanchal Kour, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu is the Organising Secretary of the competitions.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saleem-Ur-Rehman encouraged all the students during the competitions at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium Jammu and advised them to ‘Play the game and play it well’.
He said that the Department had a good haul of medals at the National scene last year and is hoping for the better show this year.
In Speedball Under-14 Boys Final Relay, SD Tara Puri School bagged 1st position and Banyan International School claimed 2nd position, while in Doubles, Jammu Sanskriti School won 1st place and New Era Environmental School claimed 2nd place.
In Singles, DPS Jammu clinched 1st position and Maha Rishi Vidya Mandir claimed 2nd spot, while in Slow, SD Tara Puri bagged 1st spot and Banyan International claimed 2nd position.
In Chess Under-14 years, Anuradha Public School beat Maharishi Vidya Mandir by 3-1 points, APS Domana held MHAC Nagbani to 1-1 draw, APS Miransahib defeated MIER Jammu by 4-0 points, BSF Paloura held SOS Herman to 1-1 draw and GD Goenka drubbed St. Xavier Barnai by 4-0 points.
In Badminton, Heritage School defeated KC International by 2-0 sets, KC Public School beat APS Domana by 2-1 sets, DPS Jammu trounced SOS Herman by 2-0 sets, St Xavier drubbed Birla Open Mind School by 2-0 sets and APS Nagrota beat MIER Jammu by 2-0 sets.
In Kick Boxing Under-17 Boys 50 Kg, Karan Ghole of BSK Domana bagged 1st position and Vasu Dev Singh of Manik Public School claimed 2nd spot, while in 55 Kg, Faheem Mustaq of Model Academy won 1st place and Ritik Kumar of Manik Public School claimed 2nd position.
The matches were officiated by a penal of experts of the Department of Youth Services & Sports.
