District Jammu emerges champion in 15th State Wushu C’ship

JAMMU, Apr 26: Jammu District lifted the title trophy, while Srinagar and Samba districts remained 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively in the 15th State Wushu Championship, organised by Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, here today.
Around 800 players drawn from 18 districts and 2 departments participated in the Championship. The players from far-flung areas like Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara and Pulwama showed brilliant performances in the Championship.
Israr Khan, retired DIG was the chief guest on the occasion, who distributed the trophies and medals among the winners and runners-up teams/players during the valedictory function.
Dr Dawood Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu was the special guest on the occasion.
The chief guest lavished praise for the office bearers of Wushu Association and the organisers, particularly, Kuldeep Handoo (Chief Coach of India) and Surya Bhanu Partap Singh (Asian Games Medallist) for promoting combat sports across the State.
He also congratulated Rajinder Singh for getting the medal in Wushu World Cup.
Earlier, Deepak Handa, Vice President Wushu Association of J&K presented welcome address.
speech on the occasion and thanked the Guests for sparing their valuable time on the occasion of the valedictory function. He briefed the achievement of the Wushu sports at the International including first ever medal in the Asian Games for the state.
The president of the Wushu Association of J&K Vijay Saraf extended thanks to the participants and the guests for making the event a grand success.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Deepak Handa, Sunil Sharma, Gautam Sharma, Bhavneet, Kuldeep Handoo, Ajay Paul Gill, Maqsood Rather, Jabeena Akhter, Mudasir, Yash Pal, Chran Singh, Junaid, Rajinder Singh, Surya Bhanu Partap Singh, Abhishek Singh Jamwal and Jai Bharat.
The proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by anchor Rajesh Dhar, while the vote of thanks was presented by General Secretary Wushu Association, Bhavneet.
