CLUJ’s Annual Athletic Meet concludes

JAMMU, Apr 30: The much awaited Annual Athletic Meet concluded at GGM Science College Hostel Ground amid euphoric atmosphere, here today.
Khurshid A. Ganai, Advisor to Governor was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary to Higher Education Department was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The Athletic Meet witnessed the participation of students in a range of field and track events which included 100 meters, 500 meters, 5000 meters, 4×100 Relay races and Javelin throw etc.
Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu formally welcomed the dignitaries and gave a detailed purview of the sports and other co-curricular activities being undertaken by the University since its inception for the overall development of the students.
She stressed on cultivating a culture of student success through programmes and initiatives specially designed to help the students reach their full potential.
Mr Ganai lauded the efforts of Cluster University of Jammu in arranging the Athletic event thereby providing a platform to the budding sportspersons to exhibit their sporting skills.
In the final Athletic events in 100m Men & Women categories, Sourab Manhas and Sushil Sharma from MAM College bagged the 1st and 3rd positions while Arun Saini from GGM Science College clinched the 2nd position. In the women’s category, Sakshi Koul and Shikha Sharma from SPMR College of Commerce were declared 1st and 2nd while Devinder Kour from GCW Gandhi Nagar clinched the 3rd position.
18 championship trophies were awarded to the winning teams in the Inter college Sports tournament which included multiple games and Athletics events.
Govt. MAM College clinched the championship trophies in Badminton (Men), Boxing (Men), Foot Ball (Men), Kho-Kho (Men), Kabbadi (Men), Chess (Men). GGM Science College lifted the Winners’ trophy in Basket Ball (Men), Volley Ball (Men) and Athletics (Men). GCW Gandhi Nagar clinched trophies in Badminton (Women), Basket Ball (Women), Kho-Kho (Women), Kabbadi (Women), Table-Tennis (Women) and Chess (Women). Govt. SPMR College of Commerce lifted championship trophy in Table Tennis and Athletics (Women). Three outstanding players were also awarded prizes for their outstanding performances – Utkarsh Raina from Govt. SPMR College of Commerce represented India in 27th Independence Cup in International Handball Championship held at Tashkent/ Uzbekistan and won bronze medal. Riya Bakshi and Jaspreet Kour from GCW Gandhi Nagar were also felicitated. Riya Bakshi won Gold medal in Junior National Championship held at Uttrakhand and Jaspreet Kour won Bronze medal in Junior National Championship held at Uttrakhand.
The other dignitaries present were Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar, Prof. Mushtaq Lone, Controller of Examination, Financial Advisor, Deans of all faculties, Principals of all constituent colleges, Chairpersons and Coordinators of various wings, Physical Directors, faculty from constituent colleges and University of Jammu.
The Athletic events were coordinated by Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Sports Coordinator, Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu presented the formal vote of thanks.
Dr. Banpreet Kour and Bhavya Koul conducted the proceedings of the event.
