KATHUA, Apr 30: The stray animals created panic in Kathua town after injuring one person who was rushed to hospital in serious condition where he later succumbed to the injuries.
The incident has generated a lot of resentment among the local people especially the administration including Municipal Council which failed to check the movement of stray animals in busy markets of the town.
The stray animals including the oxen and cow in large numbers are frequently moving in the city. They target the passers by and attack them resulting in their injuries also. The stray animals also create panic when they fight with each other and target the passerby and local shopkeepers even there is possibility of accident in case a two wheeler or four wheeler passes from that spot.
Today one person identified as Ved Parkesh was hospitalised in critical condition when some stray animals started fighting with each other at Shaheedi Chowk area. He succumbed to his injuries later on. An oxen was also killed in this animal fight. The local people demanded shifting of the stray animals out of town to a secluded area.
The Municipal Council, Chairman, Naresh Kumar showed helplessness in shifting of such animals as there is no place available to shift them. He said that the problem has surfaced because of Police Department which seizes the bovine animals and frees them in the town. The strength of stray animals is increasing day by day after they are let free by police.
He appealed the District administration to take appropriate action in this regard to save the human lives and animals as well.
It is worth mentioning that three cowsheds (Gowshalas) have been set up in Kathua on Government land. One of Gowshala set up at Kalibari is catering the more than 200 cows and oxen. The two other set up at Berian Pattan and Kathua area having small number of animals. The administration does not bother to adjust more animals there. The district administration Kathua and Municipal Council and Police Department has no plan to accommodate these animals which caused the terrible circumstances and serious injuries to common man.
