JAMMU, June 9:Vijay Saptami an auspicious festival of Hindus was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety at world famous shrine Martand (Mattan) in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
This auspicious festival comes after a gap of nine years. A large number of pilgrims from different parts of country in general and Kashmiri Pandits in particular visited the shrine to have a holy dip in the spring to perform the religious rituals.
From the early morning today thousands of devotees from Jammu, Jagti, Delhi, Pune etc thronged the shrine to pay obeisance to 13th Sun GodMaha Martandji. On the occasion Bhajans were recited and religious sermons were given by scholars.
Martand Tirath Trust had made elaborate arrangements including boarding, lodging and free langer for the pilgrims. Ajay Bharti, MLC who led a delegation from Delhi also donated library to the Trust on the occasion. He assured all help for the development of Tirath Raj Martand.
President of the Trust, Ashok Sidha and its general secretary, Salegram Bawnoo welcomed the devotees. They complimented the district administration for making arrangements for the pilgrims.
