JU organizes Inter-University Debate Contest

JAMMU, Feb 27: The Law School, University of Jammu in collaboration with Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust organised Inter-University Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Debating Contest 2013 on the topic “Social Networking Sites are Sine Quo Non of Information and Social Cohesion”.
The students from eleven law institutes from northern India participated in the said event, wherein Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak was adjudged the winner to bag the coveted trophy.
Pooja Jamwal from Jammu Law College, Kritika Sethi from The Law School, University of Jammu and Akash Kumar from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
The proceedings of the inaugural and the debating session were conducted by Dr Seema Sharma, Dr Navdeep Kaur,   Dr Mrinalini Atrey and Rajneesh Khajuria.
The students who spoke in favour and against the motion were judged by the adjudicators namely Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Faculty of Law; Dr Geetanjali Rana, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar and Sohail Kazmi, senior journalist.
The Debate was presided over by Prof Kulwant Singh, Dean Faculty of Law.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed prizes to the participants and the winners.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized on frequent organization of such competitions for the law students.
Aparana Kuthiala, Trustee, Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust was the guest of honour, who highlighted the functioning of Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust.  Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, made special remarks on the occasion.
The valedictory function started with the formal welcome address by Prof Deepsheekha Kotwal, Director The Law School, while Dr Seema Rohmetra, organising secretary of the event presented the report of the debate proceedings.
Dr Monica Narang conducted the proceedings of the valedictory function, while vote of thanks was presented by Dr Sanjay Gupta, Academic Coordinator, The Law School, University of Jammu.
