UPA govt lacks will to fight terrorism: Rajnath

NEW DELHI, Mar 2:

BJP national president Rajnath Singh today said the Congress-led UPA government “lacks strong will” to fight terrorism.

“Security is the first condition for development. Recent incident (referring to Hyderabad blasts) has posed a challenge before the country. The Prime Minister, after 2008 Mumbai attacks, had said that the government will adopt zero tolerance policy against terrorism.

“But he gave up his own policy in Sharm-el-Sheikh. He said Pakistan was also a victim of terrorism,” Mr Singh said in his presidential address at the BJP’s two-day national council which began here.

Mr Singh said the BJP wants good relations with the neighbouring countries, but it should not be one-way.

He said while on one hand the government has failed to tackle terrorism, on the other hand Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar  Shinde said the BJP and the RSS were promoting “Hindu terror” in their training camps.

Mr Singh accused the Congress of indulging in vote bank politics and dividing the nation on the basis of caste and religion. He alleged that Mr Shinde’s statement was a pre-planned strategy.

“The UPA government lacks strong political will to fight terrorism. It has weakened the fight against terrorism by talking about Hindu terrorism,” he added.

The BJP chief alleged that the government has also failed in checking illegal migration from Bangladesh. He claimed that demography of several North eastern states have been changed due to illegal migration.

He demanded that the Centre identify the illegal migrants and deport them to Bangladesh.

“China has been constructing dams on the Brahmaputra river, but the government was not serious on the matter,” he said.

Mr Singh said the Centre has ‘failed’ to provide security to sarpanchs in Jammu and Kashmir and several of them have resigned.

He demanded full security for sarpanchs and other Panchayati officials.

The BJP chief alleged that the Centre has also failed to tackle the menace of Naxalism.

Mr Singh slammed the UPA government over the economy saying that the Congress was “responsible for the economic crisis, mismanagement and price rise.

“…Even domestic investors are not investing their money,” he claimed.

“There is corruption in every sector. Earlier, there were  2G and CWG scams. Now there is chopper scam. The Congress  government is by corruption, of corruption and for corruption.

“Like Rama killed Ravana, Krishna killed Kansa, Obama (US President Barack Obama) killed Osama (Osama bin Laden), corruption will kill Congress,” Mr Singh said.

The BJP chief further said his party was the “only alternative” to the Congress.

He praised BJP Chief Ministers, especially Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, for their developmental works and good governance.

He wished good health for former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Mr Singh said the party always received guidance of party veteran LK Advani in ‘crisis’.

Besides Mr Singh and Mr Advani, senior BJP leaders Sushma  Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, MM Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari and others attended the meeting.         (UNI)
