India’s Adhitya wins French Junior Open Squash title

CHENNAI, Mar 2: India’s Adhitya Raghavan has bagged the Under-15 title in the French Junior Open Boy’s Squash  Championship being held at Lille in France.

According to Indian Chief Coach Cyrus Poncha here today,  this was Adhitya’s second international junior title after he won the Iran Junior Open last year.

A trainee at the Indian Squash Academy, unseeded Adhitya  defeated local favourite and top seed Jules Cremourx in the  title clash after accounting for seeded players en route to the final.

In the first round, Adhitya survived a scare from 5/8 seed Richard Hollins and had to fight back from two games down.

He continued his good run winning against seeded players  in the second round, quarterfinals and the semifinals, before rounding off his campaign with an upset win over the top seed in the title clash.

“‘Defeating all seeded players every round made this victory special’, said a delighted Adhitya. (UNI)
