Manohar Lal pitches for Degree College at Sallan

BILLAWAR, July 10: Former minister and president DCC Kathua, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has urged upon the State administration to sanction a Degree College for Sallan in Kandi belt of Kathua district.
Addressing a workers meeting of block Kandi of Billawar constituency, ex-MLA Billawar alleged that people of the area were facing many problems especially related to water and power crisis. He said the people from different villages from Kandi belt made a demand for opening of a Degree College at Sallan.
He claimed that delegation comprising of Sarpanches, Panches and locals of the area apprised him that a big chunk of State land was lying vacant at village Sallan and if Degree College is opened it will cater a large number of students especially girl students of the area whose gross enrollment ratio is already very low and cannot go to Degree College Kathua of Hiranagar for further education as it is far away.
During the meeting an unanimous resolution was passed for setting up of Degree College at Sallan to which Dr Sharma assured the people that the genuine demand of will be raised and followed by Block Congress Committee Kandi and gave an ultimatum of 30 days to Governor administration to come clear on this, failing to which the common masses will be forced to come on road and launch a mass agitation.
Manohar Lal also pressed for setting up more Degree Colleges in the area like in Katli- Baggan belt, Lohai Malhar- Macheddi belt.
He also alleged that Kandi belt of Kathua was facing acute shortage of water. Moreover power curtailment has made life of people miserable. He demanded that water and power supply position be improved. He also demanded 4-laning of Dyala Chak-Chhallan Road.
