IISM’s 5th Ski course concludes

SRINAGAR, Mar 2: The 5th Ski course conducted by Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) concluded today at Gulmarg.
On the occasion, Lieutenant General Om Prakash, the local corps commander was the chief guest.
JS Dhillon, Principal, IISM presented the welcome address and briefed about the various activities being undertaken by Institute.
Dhillon said that Institute not only develops the new adventure skills amongst its students, but also transforms their personality.  Students face lot of hardship and challenges in extreme weather conditions, which enable them to overcome all obstacles of their life.
During the course, students from different parts of the county including IT professionals, engineers, commercial pilots and management experts learnt skiing at basic, intermediate and advanced levels, he said, adding that local students including 15 children from the Army Goodwill School Ziran, Tangmarg, also participated in the course.
For the next course, 30 local boys from Lolab were being sponsored by Army, Dhillon added.
While speaking, Lt Gen Om Prakash said that due to its high standards of training and administration, IISM has emerged as the most popular and vibrant training institute of the Nation.  It has diversified into multidiscipline adventure activities, which include skiing, water skiing, parasailing, hot air ballooning and trekking courses, he added.
He said that the Institute plans to take longer strides of development by introducing many more activities of adventure such as paragliding, mountaineering and white water rafting under the leadership of its Principal.
Later, Lt Gen Om Parkash and Principal of the institute along with other dignitaries gave away the prizes to the winners of different events.
