JAMMU, Mar 2: Police today arrested three smugglers and rescued 25 bovine animals from their possession.
Police spokesman said that based on a tip-off regarding transportation of bovines, police party from Domana police station laid a naka at Akalpur Chowk and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JKO2AA-0311.
“On seeing the police party, smugglers tried to escape but were arrested after a hot chase,” he added.
He said that during searches, 11 bovines were rescued, adding that three smugglers identified as Zakir Hussain, son of Mohd Sarwar, Parvez Ahmed, son of Gulzar Bakerwal, both residents of Ragoora, Bye Pass Sidhra and Sheeda, son of Roshan Din, resident of Raipur Gho Manhasan were arrested.
A case has been registered at Domana police station against them and investigation started.
Meanwhile, 14 bovines were rescued from a truck and a Tata mobile in Kanhachak area of city outskirts, spokesman added.
A case has been registered at Kanachak police station and investigations are in progress.
Police parties led by SHOs Bharat Sharma and BD Singh made the arrest under the direct supervision of SDPO Domana Sandeep Mehta.
