JAMMU, July 23: Indian Institute of Technology Jammu inaugurated its Foundation Program, a 10-day mixed-bag event scheduled from July 22 to July 31, 2019.
This program has been tailored to foster a culture of creative learning with an interdisciplinary emphasis as in: Creative Writing and Publishing, Start-up Entrepreneurship, Film Studies and Appreciation, Plantation drives, Performing Arts, Knowing Constitution of India, Ethics of Journalism, J&K Culture, Branding vision, Fine Arts, Screen Printing, Innovation and Robotics, Need of Honour Code and Ethic and so forth.
Prof D K Pandya, Professor-In-Charge (Procurement) delivered the opening address while Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, addressed the students on the importance of academics, social responsibility and attested to the growing trend of start-up entrepreneurship.
Guest of Honour, Navniet Sekera, Inspector General, Housing & Welfare, Lucknow, spoke about the significance of engaging with the vicissitudes of life. Rohit Mehra, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Ludhiana, discussed issues pertaining to climate change and afforestation.
Prof Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, who introduced the concept of Foundation Program for new entrants at IIT Jammu, spoke about the significance of the Program.
The Faculty Coordinators for the Program, Dr Quleen Kaur Bijral (HoD English, HSS), Bhumika (English language Instructor) and Ishita Mahajan (Lecturer) presented brief highlights of the constituent activities.
The event also consisted of a musical rendition of Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s evergreen composition Taaron Mein Sajke performed by: Haritika Devgan (Vocal), Ayush (Vocal), Agrima (Vocal), Dr Quleen (Vocal), Kshitij (Guitar), Apurv (guitar), Abhisek (Cajon), Abhyam (Synth) and Nayanam (Vocal).
Student Coordinators of the event were: Rohit Choudhary (Cultural Secretary), Prashant, Abhinav, Shreya, Agrima, Sriram Sai and Krishna Sai.
