The International Rafting Championship organised by the J&K Department of Tourism which concluded recently will certainly help in promoting adventure tourism and sports in this State. There is indeed great scope for adventure tourism in the State due to unique geographical and topograhical features of the State. But, it may be said here that much thrust has not been given to this sector by the stakeholders.
Like Ladakh division, Jammu division too has many areas which need to be brought on the sports map of India.
The Tourism Department should organise such events regularly in the Pul Doda region as the area from Pul Doda to Chanderkote Baglihar water reserviour has been declared as waterway by the Government.
However, what the Department needs to do at first is to promote required infrastructure in the area. The sports activity will create numerous job opportunities for the local youth. This in turn would help them a dignified prosperous life.
