SRINAGAR, July 24: The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Suresh Chugh, today reviewed the process of digitization of forest boundaries of the State today at Sheikh Bagh, Forest Complex.
The PCCF was briefed about various measures taken towards the digitization of forest boundaries. He emphasized upon the use of digitized data for planning and management activities. He directed for digitization of beats within four months and refinement/validation to be done in subsequent stages.
He stressed on formulation of fire vulnerability maps of vulnerable compartments of the state and directed for formulation of fire mapping plan using last 5 years data. Asset mapping and encroachment mapping was also discussed in the meeting.
He further directed for the compilation of forest-related data and putting it on web portal of SSDI (State spatial data information). He also directed for geo-referencing of all boundary pillars in a mission mode and within a fixed time line. He said that for digitization Standard Operating Procedures have to be evolved in consultation with Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing Department.
The meeting amongst others was attended by Sarvesh Rai, Addl. Pr. Chief Conservator of Forests, CAMPA, Vasu Yadav, Managing Director, J&K SFC, T. Rabi Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Working Plan Research and Trainings and other Senior Officers and officials of forest and allied wings.
