LEH, Aug 16: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour in both the districts of Ladakh.
In Leh, Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal unfurled the Tricolour at Polo-ground at an impressive parade.
MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgial, Deputy Chairman LAHDC, Tsering Sandup, Executive Councilors, Phuntsog Stanzin, Mumtaz Hussain and Konchok Stanzin, Div Com Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Sachin Kumar, SSP, Leh Sargun Shukla, Councilors, religious, political and social heads, eminent personalities, district officers and tourist groups were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC gave full assurance on behalf of Hill Council to leave no stone unturned to take Leh towards a new era of development and prosperity.
He mentioned major developmental projects underway and completed under PMGSY, NABARD, CRF, AMRUT, PMDP in the district. He said that the district has made major headway in various development indicators, adding that upon completion of various projects will transform the development scenario in the district.
He also mentioned the Mission Organic Development Initiative of Ladakh and the initiatives taken by Hill Council in making Leh district completely organic by 2025. A book on the project was also released on the occasion.
On the occasion, contingents of paramilitary forces, police, school children and various bands presented March past. Besides, a variety of cultural programmes by school children were also held.
Similar functions were also held at sub-divisions of Khaltsi, Nubra, Nyoma and other Tehsils of the district.
In Kargil, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan hoisted the National Tricolor at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang.
The CEC took salute at an impressive march past presented by contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police, NCC , Police and civil band parties besides contingents of Government and private educational institutions.
Executive Councillor for Rural Development Aga Syed Mujtaba, Executive Councillor for Works Aga Syed Abbass, Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Principal District and Session Judge Kargil Reyaz ul Haq Mirza, Commandant IR 17 Battalion Benam Tosh, Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, ADC Kargil Sonam Chosjor, Additional SP Khalid Amin, Councilors, Army officers, district officers besides the representatives of various political, social and religious organizations were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC recalled the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their lives for the country.
While highlighting the achievements, developmental activities underway and future plans of the present Council in Kargil district, the CEC said that the Council is fully committed towards the overall development of the district in all sectors and several important initiatives are presently underway in this regard.
The CEC said that developmental works are going on in full swing in sectors like Health, Public Works, Tourism, Youth Services and Sports, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry while as concrete measures are being taken to augment other sectors also.
The CEC while expressing his thankfulness to the Governor administration for recent announcement of 2 new Degree Colleges for the district and sanctioning of Cluster University hoped that the Government will take steps for early operationalization of Cluster University for which office facility has already been provided at Kargil.
Later, colorful patriotic and cultural programmes were presented by the artists of Cultural Academy and students of various Government and private educational institutions. Prizes were also distributed among the participants in the March Past and cultural programmes.
Independence Day was also celebrated at Sub Division Drass, Sankoo, Zanskar and Shakar Chiktan besides Tehsil Tai Suru and Shargole.
