JAMMU, Mar 7: Nearly 1700 applications are pending with the State Backward Classes Commission for consideration, the Government told the Upper House of the State Legislature here today.
Replying to a question of National Conference Legislator Shaikh Ghulam Rasool, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo said that 1,694 representations are pending for disposal with the State Commission for Backward Classes.
Refuting allegations that the Commission was not functioning, she said the quorum is complete with two members and a chairman and the commission is fully operational.
In order to facilitate early disposal of applications, the Government has recently appointed two members in the commission and appointment of the remaining members is under process, she added. (AGENCIES)
