JAMMU, Aug 22: The 50th Raising Day of Sainik School Nagrota was celebrated in the school with great spirit and fervour, commemorating the inauguration of this school by Jagjivan Ram, the then Defence Minister of India on August 22, 1970. Marking the beginning of Golden Jubilee year, celebrations began with a colourful ceremonial parade cum drill competition led by the School Captain Akash Thakur at Maj Somnath Sharma, PVC Stadium. Cadets of the school turned out in immaculate ceremonial attires and presented a crisp display of March Past in 12 contingents.
Capt A Muthuraman, Principal reviewed the parade and acknowledged the salute. In his address, the Principal greeted everyone on this historic occasion and paid rich tributes to the officers, staff and cadets who played a pivotal role in building the reputation of the school. The Principal also exhorted the cadets and staff to imbibe core values and ethics which form the foundation of education and rededicate themselves to strive hard to live up to the reputation of this institution.
The second session began with exciting exhibition Cricket and Volleyball matches between staff and the cadets’ teams which was followed by the inter-house tug-of-war competition. The staff also put their stamina to test by jumping into the fray. The third phase of the celebration was held at the School Auditorium in the evening where various clubs put up a sensational display of creative ideas on the stage that included group song recitals, Presentations, Nukkad Natak and play.
The show received resounding applause from one and all.
Moreover, the children of the staff presented a talent show exhibiting their skills in a variety of items to add splendour to the occasion.
