JAMMU, Mar 7: Various Educational Institutions observed International Women’s Day.
Women Studies Centre of GCW, Gandhi Nagar observed the International Women’s Day by holding a symposium on “Role of Women in the 21st Century”. Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College was the special guest whereas Dr Kavita Suri, Associate Prof, Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu was the resource person. Dr Kavita Suri in her lecture made a power-point presentation to throw light on the historical and present status of women in society. Dr Kiran Bakshi also made a clarion call to all the girl students that they should get equipped with new strength to face the challenges which they will be witnessing at their working place, homes and eve teasing in the streets. Dr Anjali Bhat, Convenor, Women Studies Centre, Alina, Numana, Nirupama, Saranjeet, Sonal Jain, Poonam, Sana and Akriti Mahajan also deliberated upon the image of new women in the present society.
To commemorate Women’s Day, NSS wing of Sai Shyam College of Education organized health care awareness, in which women from Ghou Manhasa, besides students and staff took part. Dr Rajeev Gupta, Asstt Prof, PG Department of Community Medicines, GMC and NSS Programme Officer was the chief guest, while speaking highlighted all the relevant problems of women health. Dr Usha Tickoo, Principal, Anshita Gupta and Supriya Sharma, pre-final year MBBS students of GMC also expressed their views.
RM College of Education in collaboration with Center for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized a programme on “Women Empowerment” to mark the International Women Day. On the occasion, Dr Poonam Dhawan, Director, Center for Women Studies was the chief guest, who along with Anita Sharma, Commandant, 15 Battalion, IRP, Monika Sagar, DySP, 15 Battalion, IRP, Lovely Sabarwal, Lecturer, RM College, Rita Mengi, Trustee, ID Soni, Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides expressed their views. A play “Barsaat Ke Wo Tees Din” was also staged by Nav Durga Kala Manch.
