KATRA, Aug 29: Various educational institutions and organisations celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and fervour, here today.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organized 2-day Basketball, Archery, Shooting and Athletics tournaments at its Sports Complex here, as part of celebration of the National Sports Day.
In all, 240 sportspersons drawn from Central University of Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, local sports clubs, various educational institutions and staff of the Shrine Board took part in these tournaments.
Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up teams of Basketball as well as archers, shooters and athletes who were adjudged best in the tournaments.
Before prize distribution, Simrandeep Singh paid floral tribute to hockey wizard, late Major Dhyan Chand, in whose honour National Sports Day is celebrated every year on August 29. Among those present on the occasion were Vivek Verma, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board; Dr Jagdish Mehra, Dy. CEO; Dr. (Brig.) M. M. Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, SMVDNSH, Kakryal; Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB and Shiv Kumar Sharma, President of Indian Style J&K Wrestling Association.
Ace Para Archers Ramesh Kumar, Jyoti Balian and their coach Mr Vedvan, besides Martial Arts player Danish Sharma were also honoured on the occasion.
The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu celebrated National Sports Day at the University Sports Stadium. Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, the chief guest on the occasion, who in his address said that the University will organize various Sports events of National level in the days to come for the promotion of Sports. A Handball match and Athletic events were organized on the occasion. An impressive demonstration was presented by Tashi Tundup, participant of World University Games.
The Education Department Udhampur today launched the Fit India Campaign and organized the event in all the schools of 11 zones of the district by making arrangements for live telecast (broadcast) of launch ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the televisions and radios. The Deputy Chief Education Officer, Ram Kumar Gupta visited various schools along with the members of Cultural Cell and SAMAGRA.
Under the able- aegis of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge Kathua), Pawan Dev Kotwal “National Sports Day” was celebrated today here at Bal Ashram. The main programme was organized by Secretary District Legal Services Authority Kathua, Aarti Mohan in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office & CTM Kathua. Today on National Sports Day, Convener BJP Sports Cell, Vikram Singh Bhadwal interacted with youths of Jammu and advised them to be part of Nation-wide movement launched by PM of India on National Sports Day in order to keep themselves physically fit. District administration Ramban today launched Fit India Movement, here across the district.

Aiming at encouraging students to inculcate physical activity and sports in their everyday lives, live telecast of ‘Fit India Movement’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium New Delhi on the Sports Day, was arranged today at SRML HSS Parade Jammu. The live telecast was held in the ICT Lab, Assembly Ground and Sangeet Hall so that each and every student is benefitted and enlightened to give priority to sports and fitness in his day-to-day life. Fitness Pledge was administered by the chief guest Joint Director DSE Jammu, Mohd Latif.
Hockey J&K celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and fervour at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, Jammu. Tejinder Singh, SSP Jammu graced the occasion as a chief guest.
National Sports Day 2019 was celebrated at Sports Stadium Poonch by holding a Hockey exhibition match, which was played between Stadium XI and Poonch XI.
National Sports Day 2019 was celebrated at Higher Secondary School Katra. SDM Katra, Ashok Kumar, who was the chief on the occasion, distributed the prizes among the winners of various events organised during the day.

Carmel Convent Higher Secondary School celebrated ‘National Sports Day’ with zeal and zest on the eve of birth anniversary of the Hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand. A special programme was conducted that highlighted the importance of sports in one’s life. In a bid to motivate students to adopt a healthier and fitter lifestyle, Doon International School celebrated National Sports Day by espousing the ‘Fit India Movement’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on National Sports Day today. Govt PG College Rajouri celebrates National Sports Day and organized an Inter Class cricket tournament. On the occasion, Principal of the College Prof Shakeel Ahmed Raina inaugurated the tournament in the campus of College. He also spoke on the significance of the day.
BSF Primary School Paloura and BSF Ankur Play School Paloura, Jammu organised various sports events to celebrate the National Sports Day. Young athlete Aadhan Bharti was among 12 gold medal winners in different events. Headmistress Gayritri Kotwal was the chief guest, who distributed prizes among the winners on the occasion.
