JAMMU, Mar 12: Star Club outplayed Nizamia Cricket Club, Surankote by a huge margin of 59 runs in the finals and clinched the title trophy of the Umar Memorial T-20 Cricket tournament being organised by Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) at Surankote.
Batting first, Star Club scored 184 runs. For Star Club, Asif played well, thrashed some crispy shots and scored 64 runs.
In the second inning, Nizamia Cricket Club failed to chase the target and bundled out at 125 runs.
For Star Club, Nazir was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped three wickets, while Asif took one wicket.
Asif was declared as man of the match for his all round performance, whereas, Bilal of Nizamia Club was adjudged as Man of the series for making 233 runs and taking 7 wickets. Waheed of Nizamia Club was also declared as man of the tournament for scoring 130 runs and scalping 13 wickets.
A total of 20 teams participated in this knockout tournament.
During prize distribution function, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Anwar Shah was the chief guest, who presented uniforms and cricket kits to the winners and other players of the participating teams in presence of Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary, PYC president, Javed Mir, SDPO Surankote, Syed Khan, Tehsildar, Shintu, Company Commander 25RR, Navjot Singh, National Secretary, NSUI, Uday Bhanu Chib, State President, NSUI, Neeraj Kundan, National Delegate, NSUI, SHO Surankote Sadaqat Qureshi, Aziz-ul-Haq, father of late Umar, Riaz Shad, Chief organiser of the tournament, Sikander Hayat, President AYC Surankote, Yaseen Shiekh, VP AYC, Preet Kohli and other members of the organising committee.
While addressing the gathering Shahnawaz Choudhary, said that the main aim of organizing the tournament was to channelize the youth in positive direction and to explore the hidden talent of border youths. He asked the youth to come forward and participate in support activities, which is an essential part of life.
He assured that Youth Congress would organise sports mela in district Poonch in next two months to promote the sports activities for overall development of the youth of border district areas.
