Tenders floated for pre-feasibility studies of tunnel on Mughal road

JAMMU, Mar 13: Gover-nment today informed the Legislative Assembly that tenders have been floated for pre-feasibility studies and preliminary project report regarding construction of 7 kilometer long tunnel on Mughal road.
In response to the questions of PDP MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and National Conference Member Ajaz Ahmed Jan, the Minister Incharge R&B said, “for making the Mughal road all weather a tunnel needs to be constructed across Pir-ki-Gali for circumventing heavy snow-belt of 20 kilometers”, adding “for this, pre-feasibility study needs to be conducted followed by formulation of Detailed Project Report”.
Stating that tenders have already been floated in this regard, the Minister said that the proposed tunnel will be about 7 kilometer long and will shorten the length of Mughal road by 13-14 kilometers, adding “the work can be taken up after complete investigation covering geological, geo-morphological and hydrological aspects of the terrain are finalized and funds available”.
About the present status of the Mughal road, the Minister said that 100% achievement has been registered on fair weather single and double lane works besides on 13 minor and 6 service bridges. Achievement between 85% and 99% has been registered on other works till ending January 2013.
