NEW DELHI, Mar 13: Indian archers are in line for more medals in the Asian Grand Prix with Rahul Banerjee, Jignas Chittibomma and Anjali Kumari advancing to the finals of their respective events in Bangkok today.
Rahul beat compatriot Atanu Das 6-2 in the semifinals of the men’s individual recurve event by winning three of the four sets with scoreline 24-27, 28-27, 27-26, 29-27. Two points are awarded for winning each set.
Rahul faces London Olympics silver medallist Takaharu Furukawa of Japan in the summit clash tomorrow. Furukawa defeated Hsin-Fu Chen of Chinese Taipei 6-2 in the other semifinals. Atanu will face Chen in the bronze medal play-off.
In men’s compound individual event also, Jignas Chittibomma also made it to the final after defeating Ardianto Yanu of Indonesia 145-140. Jignas shot a series of 29, 29, 29, 29, 29 in the 15-arrow contest. He will take on He Ying of China in the final.
In the women’s individual compound event, Anjali Kumari also advanced to the final with a 135-132 victory over Loh Contessa of Singapore in the semifinal match. She will now face Threesyadinda Dellie of Indonesia in the final.
In the women’s individual recurve, Bombayla Devi will feature in the bronze medal play-off after she lost her semifinal contest against Ika Yuliana Rochmawati of Indonesia. She will play against Gina Rahayu Sugiharti of Indonesia in the third-place match.
Meanwhile, the competitions were held under floodlights for the first time. (PTI)
