KOLKATA, Mar 14: City celebrity Mary Ann Gomes picked up a bronze on the 4th board in the Women’s World Chess Team Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan, a report reaching here said today.
Woman Grand master scored 6.5 from maximum 9 with a rating performance of 2508.
The significance of her play was a victory against IM Alisa Galliamova (2459)of Russia and draw against WGM Tan Zhongyi (2471).
M Soumya Saminathan also bagged the bronze, on the 5th board, by scoring five out of eight rounds. Despite the absence of their top three players the Indian eves finished 5th.
Ukraine bagged the gold and were followed by China, Russia, Georgia and India. (UNI)
