Sweets workshop sealed, 8 establishments challaned

JAMMU, Oct 24: Food Safety wing of Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu today sealed a sweets workshop and challaned 8 food establishments for violation of FSSAI rules.
Continuing their special drive ahead of Diwali, a Food Safety team headed by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu under the overall supervision of Vinod Sharma, Commissioner, FDA J&K inspected various sweet shops, wall marts and Big Bazars situated in Nanak Nagar, Pacca Danga, Talab Tillo, Kanji House, Bhagwati Nagar, Vanaik Bazar, Toph Sherkhanian, Gandhi Nagar and Sanjay Nagar.
During the drive, the team challaned 8 food business operators for unhygienic and insanitary conditions and sealed one workshop of sweet manufacturer under the name and style M/s Sultan Sweets, Bhagwati Nagar as the same was being operated without obtaining FSSAI license.
The team comprising Food Safety Officers Ajay Khajuria, Daleep Singh, Hans Raj Andotra and Pervaiz Ahmed, also lifted 24 samples of sweets during the drive and sent the same to the Food Testing Laboratory Jammu for checking standard of purity. Besides this, the team sensitized the food business operators about FSSAI rules and directed them to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene in the processing and storage areas.
