JAMMU, Oct 25: Panic gripped the Kaluchak area here on city outskirts today when a blast took place inside the shop of a scrap dealer.
According to the police, the blast took place at about 10 am in a scrap dealers’ shop located on the National Highway near Kaluchak. “The labourers were busy in separating brass (yellow metal) from overdate, defused or empty mortar shells, which were brought from Leh by purchasing in auction conducted by the Army when a shell suddenly exploded on the strike of a hammer by a labourer,” police said.
However, police said that no one was injured in the explosion and the shop also did not suffere any major damage.
SP City, Vinay Sharma said that a case has been registered in this connection at police station Gangyal to ascertain how the live shell was auctioned in scrap by the Army. He said no loss of life or injury to any person has been reported in the explosion.
